Ellen Pompeo Gets Married

'Grey's Anatomy' star Ellen Pompeo managed to fly under the gossip radar, and tied the knot with fiance Chris Ivery in New York on Friday.

The pair — who got engaged a year ago — wed Friday in a brief ceremony at New York's City Hall, where Mayor Michael Bloomberg — a Massachusetts native like Pompeo, 38 — served as their witness, The Boston Globe reports. First Deputy Mayor Patti Harris accompanied the couple, the paper said.

"They are over the moon," the Globe quoted Pompeo's rep, Jennifer Allen, as saying.

Congrats! Let's hope her marriage is more successful than Meredith's relationship with McDreamy.

'Grey's' Doc Gets Engaged

'Grey's Anatomy' star Kate Walsh has announced her engagement to boyfriend Alex Young, a Fox studio exec. The big news came to press gathered at Lincoln Center for ABC's upfront presentation for the new Fall season.

"It happened a few days ago. And that’s all I can say," she beamed, flashing US Weekly her engagement ring. "I’m on cloud nine.”

The couple were first spotted getting cozy on April 22 at Mustard Seed Restaurant in Hollywood. “They were holding hands, nuzzling each others necks, kissing, and were really into each other," a source tells Us.

Walsh and Young then went public with their whirlwind romance at a Barack Obama fundraiser in Los Angeles.

An engagement isn't the only thing that the actress has to smile about these days. ABC announced late last week that Walsh's new show, Private Practice (the Grey's Anatomy spin-off starring Walsh's character, Addison Montgomery Sheperd), had been picked up for a full season and will premiere this fall on Wednesday nights at 9 p.m.

Dempsey Still Keeps Distance from Dr. McAngry

Patrick Dempsey revealed in a recent interview that fellow Seattle Grace doc Isaiah Washington is a changed man since completing anger rehab. That said, he revealed that he still keeps his distance when they aren't working on scenes together.

He says, "I haven't spent enough time around him to honestly know what's going on with him... (but) you do have a feeling, when you look at him, that something is different, and that he is working on things. You can't get away from the fact he's doing a great job on the show; he does beautiful work. He's very passionate about it. He allows himself to feel deeply and sometimes that's very difficult to contain and control appropriately."

The two actors were involved in an on-set fight last October after Washington used a gay slur to attack fellow castmate T.R. Knight.

The controversy rumbled into 2007 when Washington repeated the gay remark at the Golden Globes.

He has since apologised, met with gay community leaders and undergone counseling to help him with anger issues, and Dempsey feels sure the actor is a different person.

Grey's Anatomy Cast PO'ed About Spin-Off

I guess the rest of the world heard about the new 'Grey's' spin-off before the cast of the popular ABC drama did, because they are fuming mad.

“The rest of the cast seemed instantly resentful of [Walsh],” a source told Star. “They each thought they’d be the one chosen to get their own show, and now they’re giving Kate the cold shoulder.” The source adds that “Grey’s” star Ellen Pompeo “seemed particularly peeved because she felt that, as the star, she should have been consulted.”

In related news, Katherine Heigl has walked out of salary negotiations with 'Grey's' execs because she feels less monetarily appreciated than co-stars Sandra Oh and Isaiah Washington.

Breaking! Washington's Grey's Days May Be Numbered

Isaiah Washington may be on his way out.

I just received word from a highly placed source within the Touchstone/ABC family that ABC and Disney executives are currently considering the option of firing Isaiah Washington from Grey's Anatomy, effective immediately, without having him appear in any kind of farewell episode.

According to this reliable source, if the network does follow through with this option, the producers are likely to run a full-screen announcement at the beginning of the first Burke-less episode that announces Isaiah Washington is no longer part of the show.

I'm also told by various sources that the loss of Preston Burke is not an easy task for Grey's writing staff to deal with, given that he has a major storyline (including a life-changing event) coming in the next few episodes that airs during February sweeps. Those episodes have already been shot.

Dr. McDreamy's Rx for Marital Bliss: Therapy

With twins on the way, "Grey's Anatomy" star Patrick Dempsey is making sure his marriage is on solid ground - by taking his wife to a shrink.

"We go in for checkups and go, 'Hey, here's what we need to work on,'" the actor divulged in an interview.

Patrick and Jill have been married since 1999. They have a 4-year-old daughter and Jill is pregnant with twin sons.

"We've had a very good relationship from the beginning," revealed Patrick. "But you run into things you have to work through. And (marriage counseling) is easier than fi ghting."

Dempsey, who plays Dr. Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd, says fatherhood has given him incentive to make sure his marriage stays in top shape.

"You look at your relationship and go, 'How do I improve this? How do I keep growing and create a stable environment for my children?'"

Devoted wife and mom Jill is Dempsey's second spouse. When he was 21, he married Rocky Parker, who was 47. Their stormy marriage ended in divorce in 1994.

The star has become a big booster of marriage counseling, according to a set source.

"He's told me you can't wait for something to go wrong - you have to take care of the problem before it becomes unfixable."

But marriage counseling has a spotty track record with Hollywood couples.

Halle Berry, Jane Fonda, Whitney Houston and Kathy Griffin all went into therapy with their husbands - but all landed in divorce court.

Madonna, Courteney Cox and Mel Gibson underwent marriage counseling and are still with their spouses.

According to TV Guide, the "Grey's" star has hired Allen Mayer and Kelly Mullens, whose bag is crisis management. Mayer has put out fires for the likes of R. Kelly, Tommy Lee and Paula Poundstone.

For starters, the new team might want to rethink Isaiah's apology. He said he was sorry for using the Golden Globe microphone to deny he called co-star T.R. Fans of "Grey's Anatomy" are going to be seeing a lot less of co-star Sara Ramirez.

The 5-foot-9 actress has dropped 25 pounds and now weighs 145. The curvy Latina said she did it with exercise and a sensible diet, eschewing the quick fixes she turned to in the past, such as dangerous diet pills.

"On the set, there's catered food everywhere you look," said Sara, who plays Dr. Callie Torres on the hit show. She says she packed on weight during filming last season.

"My energy level was low and I felt unhealthy, so I decided on my own to get a trainer."

Sara, 31, moved to the U.S. from Mexico with her mom when she was 8 and says she's struggled with weight issues all her life.

But it wasn't until she attended Juilliard, the prestigious performing arts school in New York City, that she began a destructive cycle of binge-eating and crash dieting.

"Somewhere along the line, all the self-esteem I'd felt went out the window. My weight constantly yo-yoed - at my slimmest I was a size 6; my biggest, a 14."

Things only got worse when she went to Hollywood and starved herself on celery sticks and peanut butter so she could compete with thinner actresses for TV roles. Sara then turned to diet pills. "They made my heart race, but I felt I needed them," she explained.

"After six months, my body had had enough. I could feel myself getting shakier, and I grew more and more scared knowing I was putting my heart in danger."

After a firestorm of controversy over his use of offensive language on set and at Monday's Golden Globes, "Grey's Anatomy" star Isaiah Washington issued the following statement late this afternoon:

"I apologize to T.R., my colleagues, the fans of the show and especially the lesbian and gay community for using a word that is unacceptable in any context or circumstance. By repeating the word Monday night, I marred what should have been a perfect night for everyone who works on 'Grey's Anatomy.' I can neither defend nor explain my behavior. I can also no longer deny to myself that there are issues I obviously need to examine within my own soul, and I've asked for help.

I know the power of words, especially those that demean. I realize that by using one filled with disrespect I have hurt more than T.R. and my colleagues. With one word, I've hurt everyone who has struggled for the respect so many of us take for granted. I welcome the chance to meet with leaders of the gay and lesbian community to apologize in person and to talk about what I can do to heal the wounds I've opened.

T.R.'s courage throughout this entire episode speaks to his tremendous character. I hold his talent, and T.R. as a person, in high esteem. I know a mere apology will not end this, and I intend to let my future actions prove my sincerity."

GLAAD Demands Apology From Grey's Star

A gay and lesbian advocacy group demanded an apology Wednesday from "Grey's Anatomy" co-star Isaiah Washington for comments made following the Golden Globe Awards.
During a backstage interview Monday, Washington denied involvement in a heated on-set incident last year during which an anti-gay slur was reportedly uttered.

"No, I did not call (co-star) T.R. (Knight) a faggot," Washington told reporters. "Never happened, never happened."

On Wednesday, Neil Giuliano, president of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, said he had contacted Washington's representatives in hopes of meeting the actor to discuss "the destructive impact of these kinds of anti-gay slurs."

"Washington's repeated use of it on-set and in the media is simply inexcusable," Giuliano said in a statement.

Washington's publicist declined comment Wednesday.

Knight, who said soon after the October fracas that he is gay, appeared in Tuesday's taping of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" to discuss the original incident and Washington's recent comments.

"He referred to me as a faggot. Everyone heard it," Knight said of the October incident.
