Shamo (overview)

Title: 軍鶏, Shamo

Author: Hashimoto Izou

Artist: Tanaka Akio

Release date: 1998

The manga revolves around a child prodigy, Ryo Narushima (age 16) who has been sent to a reformatory after killing both his mother and father. There, he is faced with the violent and sexual indignities of his new life, also while coming to grips with the crime he has committed.

Ryo's only outlet is an occasional martial arts class taught by Kenji Kurokawa, an older man who was charged with attempting to murder the Japanese Prime Minister.

With new set of martial arts skills, Ryo is able to survive his long stay at the reformatory.

Shamo is pretty well engaging manga... During the first quarter at lest and I can honestly relate to his sense of wanting to survive and the grief he feels for what he has done. But after Ryo returns back to the normal word, he becomes such a douchebag! So much so that I can't even find a way to relate to him. Committing acts of rape and blackmail...

( ' ~') and I though he was going to change...

I stopped reading the manga half way through and I don't really think I will try to read onward in the future.
