NARS Bohemia & Konad

This week, I decided to try my ultra-expensive ($16) NARS Bohemia polish. I love the color, but I think I'd go with something cheaper next time. I'm still not terribly good at the Konad thing, but I'm definately getting better! The picture above is no flash, and true to color, the one below is with a flash, and shows the mica sparkling a little.
I used 3 coats of polish (it was opague in 2) over Zoya basecoat, and 2 coats Lippman top coat over everything. Not too bad - the polish bubbled a bit, but it was before the top coat, so I'm thinking the NARS didn't like my base coat. I think the konad plate is M4.

Brooke & Catherine, you should have your prizes by the end of the week, Pixie, I'm not sure how long yours will take to get there, but hopefully soon!
Happy polishing!

Silver Flower Konad

I think the Sephora by OPI top coat is to blame for my recent "bubbling" problems - gotta get some more Zoya, I guess!

In any case, this week I found myself in a super-light polish mood. So I started with four coats of Color Club's "Runway Muse", which is a pearly white iridescent polish with blue/pink tones (yes, 4 coats - to get it mostly opaque). Then to really "bling it up", I added 1 coat of China Glaze "Tinsel", and spent too long this morning trying to get a picture that would show the iridescent colors coming through the glitter. I had no luck, but as you can see, these are super-shiny nails and I just love how they turned out. The bubbles just add to the glitter effect, in this case!

I got out the Konad again, and chose a very simple flower design just to add a little contrast, but nothing that would take away from the base polish. I think these flowers came out pretty nicely, though I still need to practice getting the images centered on the nails. I used the Konad special purple polish for the designs.

I did my toes too - a post with photos on that later this week, as well as a review of Suncoat eco-friendly polish remover (which I've decided is my favorite).

Happy polishing!

Konad Revvvolution

Thanks to Brooke and her insanely detailed Konad tutorial last week, I pulled out the ol’ plates on Sunday, and gave it another try. Oddly enough, my left hand (I’m right-handed) is less than impressive, while my right hand managed to score much straighter stamps. Overall, it went better than it could have, so I’m not complaining. Please excuse the chip down by my cuticle on the left hand (below) – I got a little overzealous when cleaning up…

I’ve gotta say – I absolutely *adore* this black glitter-filled polish from Color Club. The formula is pretty thin, but it’s very easy to apply, goes on opaque in two coats, and dries quickly…*without tip shrinkage*! It’s just packed with micro-glitter in lots of different colors, so it’s very sparkly in the sunshine (or under a camera flash), but it looks more “gunmetal grey” in standard room lighting (so not as “harshly goth” as a straight black would be). It’s really a unique color that actually looks very classy.I used the Konad special polish for the white designs – I picked this ultra-simple one so I wouldn’t have to worry so much about details. As you can see, I have some smearing, a few lines that don’t quite close, and stamps that aren’t centered, but not too bad overall (like most nail art, it looks just fine from farther away).

I used the Sephora by OPI top coat this week - worked great, no tip pull, dried quickly with my Zoya half-time drops.

Stay tuned – Friday I’ll be announcing the very first contest here at Nail Art Tuesday…

Seafoam to Honeycomb Konad

Yes, I finally succumbed to peer pressure, and dug out my long-ignored Konad kit. I bought it last year, thinking it would be the greatest thing *ever*, and then proceeded to screw up two manicures trying to figure it out. Then it went back in the drawer (with my “Nail Art Diva” stamping kit). I always knew I’d try it again someday, and that day was this past Sunday night. I went with Sinful “Snow Me White” for the design, so that it would be very light, and my mistakes wouldn’t bug me as bad.

For the manicure, I had to try out one of my new “Moodies” from Nubar – Seafoam Green to Honeycomb. The first picture (all pics today are "no flash") above is what it looks like “cold”…and I have to say, I don’t really think it’s “seafoam”…more of a light green olive color. But I like it, nonetheless – it’s very soothing and peaceful. And while I like the bright colors, I do love tranquil ones as well.In the transition is when this polish really shines (like most Moodies colors). I’m a little disappointed that this particular color is so translucent. What you see in these pictures is *three* coats…and you can still see my smile line through them (excuse my poor index finger – my polish chipped last week, which facilitated a nail snag, and you know how it goes from there…).And of course the “warm” phase is the Honeycomb, which is *really* translucent. Honestly, I’m not even sure a fourth coat would have fixed that problem; the polish is just so lightly pigmented. It is very, very shiny though, which does deflect a lot of light (helpful). I’m not terribly fond of the Honeycomb in its totally warm state against my skin, but normally even when my hands are warm, the tips are cool, so I have some of the Seafoam color for contrast.
I normally post pictures of my left hand, because it’s more complicated getting shots of my right (since the camera’s shutter button is on the right side of the camera). I stamped my left hand first, and by the time I got through my right hand, I was definitely getting the hang of the Konad stamper (the designs on my right hand are much clearer and more complete than those on my left, pictured here). So I may be doing a lot of Konad art for awhile, just to practice more with it and hopefully get quicker at it.

In other news, I got paid last Friday, which facilitated a polish splurge at Head-to-Toe Beauty Supplies! I ordered way too much stuff, some of the polishes featured lately on other blogs. More on that when it all gets here in a week or so (I got the shipping notice yesterday)!
