On the Beat with Beth Horn (A Lost Interview)

While scrounging through some disks, I came across an interview I did with actress Beth Horn in 2008 at Wizard World.  It was an impromptu interview that I ultimately used for Global Traveler, although it was originally intended for a different magazine.
I had my recorder with me and I saw Horn.  I thought she would be a great fit for a specific local women's magazine in Chicago.  I approached her and she gladly gave me several minutes of her time.
We talked about her time on tv's American Gladiators, as well as her developing movie career.  She had recently just finished filming scenes for Fancy Pants, a movie which was scheduled for release, but has yet to be.  It also starred my old friends, Roddy Piper and Terry Funk.
I also discovered that Beth went to Resurrection high school on the northwest side f Chicago.  During my time at Lerner Newspapers, I am sure I saw Beth's name and picture many times in our high school sports section.
I caught up with Beth this past summer and posted the video here.  Now, if we can turn back the clock, here is my found 2008 interview with Beth Horn.

On the Beat with Beth Horn

I interviewed Beth Horn (actress, fitness model, American Gladiator) a couple years ago at Wizard World in Chicago (IL). That was one of my first unplanned interviews and I did it without any video or photographic coverage. Horn was very nice as I bumbled through it. I have met Horn a couple times since and she always remembers and cheerfully greets me.
Recently at Wizard World 2010, I asked Horn if she would do a short video interview to update us on what she has been doing. This time I was set with a videographer.
We talked about doing a convention in her home town. She also told us that her movie Fancy Pants (which also features Roddy Piper) will be out later this year. The big news is a Johngy's Beat scoop! There will be an American Gladiators movie filming next year and Horn is hopeful for a role in it. She has her fingers crossed and we wish her good luck.

Beth Horn is A Today's Chicago Woman

I was doing some interviews at the Wizard World in Chicago when I came across Venom (aka Beth Horn) from American Gladiators. I stopped by and briefly interviewed Horn.
Along with her gig on American Gladiators, Horn is a personal trainer, an author and an actress. Horn recently had finished filming her part in Fancypants, a movie currently in post-production. Roddy Piper is also in that movie.
I also learned that Horn was a local girl. Horn was born in Chicago and graduated from Resurrection High School on the northwest side. We talked a bit about her favorite Chicago spots.
We even joked about her appearing on the cover of Today's Chicago Woman in the future. Hopefully one day my crew will be distributing TCW's emblazoned with Horn's face! The only thing better would be if I was the writer for the accompanying article. Are you listening TCW?

Mayhem, Fury, Venom and ...Johngy?

I loved watching American Gladiators when I was younger. Sure, some of the events were a bit cheesy, but the show was great. That's why I was excited when NBC brought back the American Gladiators last year.
This incarnation is hosted by Hulk Hogan and Laila Ali. The sets are sleeker and the production is slicker, but the action is just as entertaining. This set of Gladiators is just as colorful as the first set years ago.
I had the pleasure of meeting Gladiators Mayhem (William Romeo), Fury (Jamie Reed) and Venom (Beth Horn) at a Hollywood Collectors Show. They were all very personable and seemed happy to be there. Horn is a native Chicagoan; so we had a few extra things to discuss.
Mayhem joked about me being a Gladiator. Now that would be cool, although I think I'd need a better character name. I don't think Johngy would instill fear in any of the competitors.
