'i shut my eyes in order to see.'
~ paul gauguin

i find that when i work in metal, my desire is to enhance its innate ability to be soft, to provide contrast to what one often associates with this medium...

using color palettes that are often much more subtle than this, i found myself inspired by the monthly challenge at art bead scene - 'nave nave moe' by paul gauguin... his rich colors and luscious forms...

these earrings are offered up as the giveaway, they are copper but have sterling silver ear wires... the drawing will take place on april 11th...

please leave a comment to be entered and perhaps share your thoughts on this::

if you had to share 2 of your favorite books - technique, project oriented, or even just eye candy, what would they be? do you have a technique that you have learned that is indispensable to you? do you have one that you desire to learn? i am hoping that by sharing your tried and trues here, it may help someone else in their process...

LMAJ Bracelet Giveaway....

This week, we will be giving this very cool bracelet made by me (MaryAnn Carroll).

Lots of Pics....  I know....

My biggest struggle lately is learning to take pictures of completed jewelry.  I've checked other shops..... I've checked in magazines.... I've checked blogs.... but I'm still struggling....

Todays comment request is that you leave a tip (or a struggle) that you have while photographing jewelry.  If you are a buyer ....  and don't sell .... what types of things in the pictures on Etsy, Artfire or elsewhere are appealing to you when you are shopping for jewelry, beads, etc.

As always ....  if you share this post on facebook, twitter, blogs or other places on the internet, leave a separate comment letting us know that!  Thanks a bunch!  Name will be chosen at random on Monday,  March 7th....  WOW!  2011 is flying by!!!

This bracelet was made with my porcelain beads.  The chain (have no idea where I purchased it) was given a light patina effect using a torch (purchased from Barbara Lewis).  The clasp was created using 16 gauge copper wire.

**The bracelet can be sized for the individual winner**

It's that TIME!!!

What time?  LMAJ Monday Giveaway time, of course!!

Barbara Lewis is offering something very cool and most certainly unique....

These are enamel pendants or charms that are 5/8" at their widest point.
The image of the eye is from a 1935 Montgomery Ward catalog advertising mascara.
I, myself, might even consider creating earrings from them!

Question:

"What is it that you like about jewelry that has been completely handmade?"

Share your thoughts by leaving a comment.

And as usual.....share this giveaway on your blog, your facebook, your twitter or anywhere else that you might share on the internet and come back to leave multiple comments letting us know each time.  Each comment will only be counted once....

Thank-you for...

LMAJ giveaway bead Nov 8

Bead Description:  These special beads have an inner glow, for sure. Made by hand with layer upon layer of translucent color, and adorned with my own handmade murrini, these beads would be comfortable in any design. This bead is etched to a velvety finish, and sparkles in the sunlight from the silver added to the glass.  This lentil bead measures 1.25" across (32mm).

How to Win:

Please CAREFULLY read and follow the directions below and your name will be
included in our random drawing giveaway.

Question:

With the holidays quickly approaching, I have spent some time thinking about what I can make that would be special for my loved ones?  I've made jewelry, clocks, keepsake boxes, personal CD's, personalized T-Shirts, woodcarvings, a rocking horse, a toy box and on and on.  I have even made some special birthday dinners on occasion.  Those have probably been my biggest challenges since I am not a fan of cooking.

Have you made something special for someone in your life?
If so, what was it and how was it received?
