Ellen Joins Idol

56231330

It's Ellen! Degeneres announced her new gig yesterday during a taping of her talk show. The funny lady is a long-time fan of American Idol. She'll bring a fresh perspective to the judge's table since she doesn't have a background in the music industry. She's just a everyday music-lover! And she'll bring a consumer's opinion to the show.

Just in time for the start of American Idol tonight, Kelly Clarkson has a new single from her upcoming album All I Ever Wanted called "My Life Would Suck Without You." It's pretty good! Oh how I've missed the season one winner! What do you think?

Quote Of The Day

"As far as people thinking I'm pretty or something, I don't know. It's amazing what a haircut and forgetting to shave will do." - David Cook on his newfound popularity.

Cook Takes The Title

Last night's Idol proved victorious for David Cook as he was given the title of this year's American Idol. What a voice and what a season he had! Props to David Archie as well, what a competitor and what a voice, I'm sure he'll go far. I was on the edge of my seat last night, I literally didn't know which David, I mean which way it would go. I would have been happy either way, but I think David C. deserved it a little more. I can't wait to see what kind of record he'll come out with! Congrats!

Idol Goes Big And Gives Back

Although Wednesday's American Idol won't be saying goodbye to another contestant, (the results will be shown Thursday night) they will be airing their Idol Gives Back show for the second year in a row. The fundraiser will be raising money for both U.S. and international charities and will feature big stars like Brad Pitt, Hollywood it-couple David and Victoria Beckham, Miley Cyrus, and former Idol winners Carrie Underwood and Jordin Sparks. I recommend having a box of kleenex handy as the show will also include heartfelt stories informing people firsthand on how this special will be making a difference in the lives of many.

Randy Jackson goes from judge to performer.

Former Idol winner and country superstar Carrie Underwood shares a laugh with Teri Hatcher.

Brad Pitt shows his giving heart and waves to his adoring, not to mention screaming, fans.

Fergie, in skin-tight leather pants, cartwheeled across the stage during her performance, squashing all pregnancy rumors.

Celine Dion visits a South African orphanage.

Teen idol Miley Cyrus visits with a young girl in Kentucky, showing her support to the charity organization Save the Children.

Paula Abdul puts a smile on a young boy's face as she spends time at Goshen Elementary School in California.

Girl-next-door actress Reese Witherspoon reads to a class at New Orleans CDF Freedom School.

No stranger to charity work, U2 frontman Bono visits with a volunteer in Tanzania.

Winners of the Week

Two very big shows had two very big episodes this week.

Not only did Project Runway reveal its winning designer on Wednesday, but just last night American Idol's top 12 was decided.

Christian Siriano proved that "fierceness" was just what Heidi Klum was looking for as he (emotionally) took the title of best designer of the hit-show's fourth season. Siriano, from Annapolis, MD and the youngest contestant to ever win, achieved another difficult task as well...he made the one and only Posh smile. Victoria Beckham, who joined Klum, Michael Kors and Nina Garcia on the judging panel for the final runway show, admitted that Siriano's collection was something that she would wear and in her own words said, "It was major."

Click here to check out Siriano's "fierce" collection.

In-between all those nail-biting commercial breaks, Ryan Seacrest finally revealed which singers will compete next week in American Idol's top 12 last night. Although it was sad to see the four contestants leave, it will be exciting to see how the top 12 will perform as the stakes get higher.

Idol's Top 12:

Michael Johns
Seyesha Mercado
David Archuleta (!)
Carly Smithson
David Cook
Ramiele Malubay
Jason Castro
Kristy Lee Cook
David Hernandez
Brooke White (!)
Chikezie
Amanda Overmyer

Vote For Luke!

An avid American Idol fan?
Watching the top 8 male singers perform tonight?
Voting for Luke Menard until the very last second the phone lines are open?

If you answered yes to these three questions (which you should have) then you rock, and if not, you at least MUST MUST vote for the adorable and talented Orlando Bloom look-alike Luke Menard and help him successfully make it into Idol's top 12!

Here's a video of Luke singing Queen's "Killer Queen," during last week's '70s theme.

I wonder what he'll sing tonight?

Tune in and VOTE FOR LUKE!

Paula Abdul Catches Fan Taking Pics of Her Peeing

Poor Paula Abdul was shocked to discover an adoring fan photographing her over a toilet cubicle partition. Paula revealed:

"I was mortified, and she didn't think there was anything wrong with it. I honestly was weirded out by that and she was so nervous that she thought I wouldn't even notice.

And I was like, 'No, no, that's not cool.' I said to her, 'A real good tip, don't do that to anyone else.'"

The avid fan is probably selling the money shots to a photo agency right now!

Simon Cowell Gets Bugged

'American Idol' judge, and all-around meanie, Simon Cowell apparently found a bug, as in listening device, in a television set in his hotel room. Now Cowell is embroiled in an investigation into a major gambling ring which has already resulted in the arrest of one man.

Police were called to the Palace Theatre in Manchester, England, after the music mogul spotted the high-tech listening device in the corner of the room.

The star was using the hotel to audition members of the public for his forthcoming U.K.-based reality TV contest Britain's Got Talent. It is now feared Cowell, and his fellow judges, journalist Piers Morgan and actress Amanda Holden, were the target of an underground betting ring trying to glean information about possible winners through their private conversations.

Cowell says, "I am absolutely shocked that someone tried to bug me. It is incredible the lengths some people will go to try and get inside information about myself and the other judges. Nobody knows what they intended to do with the information they got from recording our conversations - but it is a concern that they were able to breach security."

Police in the city have launched an inquiry and a man was arrested on Thursday night in connection with the investigation.

Does Simon Have Fake Boobies?

Simon Cowell has his fingers in many a television pie, including across the pond in the UK, where the acid-tongued 'Idol' judge hails from. Cowell is a judge on a show called 'X-Factor', which is based on the same premise as our 'American Idol'. Unfortunately for Simon, he doesn't seem to be as well liked by the judges on 'X-Factor' as he is on 'Idol'.

One of those Brit judges, Louis Walsh, has gone on the record saying that Simon has had pectoral implants to get that muscled look he sports under those tight black t-shirts that he incessantly wears. Walsh goes on to say that the rest of the judges, with the exception of him, "all have fake t**s" and other work done.

No big deal, I say, since the rest of the judges are women! Whatever, it just sounds like some sour grapes to me, though those boobies Simon's got do look a little suspect....

Kellie Pickler Continues to Make Herself Over

Kellie Pickler has gone from super cute American Idol wannabe, to Dolly Parton wannabe with the boobies to match, and has continued to evolve into something approaching glamorous.

Ding! Dong! Sanjaya's Dead!

Okay, well not really dead....Sanjaya just finally got voted off of 'American Idol'. Yippeeeee! I was soooooo tired of seeing his wacked out hair and bad warbling each week. Now we can get back to the business of serious singing, and get rid of the rest of the wanna-be's who shouldn't still be there.

Who do you all think is the next to go? And who do you think will win it all?

My money is on Jordin Sparks, but Melinda Doolittle is going to give her a run for her money.

Sanjaya Booed at Dodger Game

'American Idol's Sanjaya Malakar may have people voting to keep him on the show, but when he attended a Dodger baseball game Saturday, the booing showed how people really feel.

The cameramen at the game put his picture up on the Jumbotron, and people started booing. According to Star magazine, Sanjaya tried to keep a happy face on, but his eyes were sad.

"He was just sitting there having a good time with his friends, just like a regular person," an eyewitness who was at the game tells Star. "And when the Dodger camera noticed him the camera guy ran over and taped him. Sanjaya's face pops up on the big screen right away. At first he smiled, he seemed to like the attention. But when the entire crowd at the stadium started to boo--and it was loud!--his smile faded a bit and his eyes looked sad. It's like he was trying to keep a fake smile on, but you could tell he was crestfallen. He just kept waving and smiling for a few seconds more then his image went off the screen."

Post Chronicle Outing Ryan Seacrest?

The Post Chronicle might want to bone up on the ramifications of outing someone who really doesn't want to be outed, or just isn't gay. One of their online headlines reads: "Is Ryan Seacrest The New Gay Larry King?"

The article doesn't address the screaming gay headline, but instead alludes to another suspected in the closet newsman, Anderson Cooper.

Chris Sligh Latest 'Idol" to be Going Home

Chris Sligh, the kind of loveable chubby cross between 'Lost's Hurley and Jack Osbourne, was voted off 'American Idol' and sent packing, also sparing Sanjaya Malakar for another week.

Simon predicted the results, saying "It's bye-bye curly", even before Ryan Seacrest read the results.

Cowell said on Tuesday's program that Sligh's rendition of the Police classic "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" was a "mess."

Haley Scarnato and Phil Stacey rounded out the bottom three, but were pronounced safe, and Sligh got the boot.

Casting Couch....

Constantine Maroulis, former 'Idol' wannabe, has been cast in the CBS soap 'The Bold and the Beautiful' for a role supposed to last thirteen weeks. The role is basically an exaggerated version of himself.

“He will be a more established pop star/producer/label owner. He will discover this girl Phoebe and want to make her a big star. He will get caught up in a love triangle.” says Maroulis.

Sanjaya Malakar is showing his desperation to distract the American public from his bad karaoke by performing in a ridiculous mohawk hairdo. The "fauxhawk" was actually made up of seven little ponytails on top of his head.

As far as his performance goes last night, he was apparently so busy perfecting his fauxhawk that he forgot to learn the lyrics to No Doubt's 'Spoiler'.

The website Idolator reports that Gwen Stefani, who was the guest last night, was so put off by Sanjaya's lackluster performances during rehearsal, she went to producers to put the kibosh on his performing any of her tunes.

"Sanjaya Malakar - He wanted to sing "Spoiler". She tried to get him to sing some 80's song. He said he was a big fan and he really wanted to do one of her songs. Gwen was upfront with him and told him she didn't think he could pull it off but gave him the benefit of the doubt. Today after seeing how rehearsals were going, she didnt' see any progress. She went to Nigel immediately and told him she does not want Sanjaya singing one of her songs whatsoever. Sanjaya didn't have many options at that point. He kind of got stuck with "Spoiler". This caused a big scene at the studio and was the talk all afternoon."

Oh snap! Even Gwen thinks you can't sing, dude! Go home already!

The Sanjaya Diet

A MySpacer has another week of starvation to look forward to since going on a hunger strike until 'Idol' Sanjaya Malakar is voted off the show. Unfortunately for the woman, who identifies herself only as "J", Malakar is now in the Idol Top 10 and will also be going on tour with the rest of the Idols this year.

"J" wrote on her MySpace page, "I'm really starting to feel sorry for Sanjaya," wrote the hungry blogger last night. "People keep voting him through because they think it's funny ... and I think it's to the point where this kid is starting to believe his own hype."

I hope "J" has a few extra pounds to keep her warm at night, because Sanjaya just keeps on squeakin' on, and may be around a while longer.

Stephanie is Latest 'Idol' Axed

Stephanie Edwards is the latest 'American Idol' wannabe to get the ax (and save Sanjaya Malakar).

The old Dusty Springfield ballad, "You Don't Have to Love Me," was simply beyond the 19-year-old singer's command. And she'd probably articulated the weakest "personality" of the finalists. That left nothing to fall back on. Gina Glocksen may be a lesser singer than Stephanie, but she was probably shrewder in the way she's grabbed onto her "rock chick" identity.

Another blog, Bumpshack, had this to say of her performance: "She is always overshadowed. I don’t remember much about her performance. She needs some hair."

Then graded her singing with a B-.

Taylor Hicks Drops the Fried Food...and 22 Lbs.

'Idol' winner Taylor Hicks has lost 22 pounds since getting his crown last year, and he did it by ditching fried chicke and fast food. The 6'1" singer went from 215 to 193 by turning to salads, brown rice, fish and chicken noodle soup. "It's good for your throat," he says. "It's also comforting, but it's light."

He kept one of his favorites on the menu however: chocolate cake. Hicks says that when he takes a tour day off it's his "sin day", and he looks for the cake in whatever city he's in.

His other secret is running every other day for 45 minutes, no matter where he is or what he's doing.

"I just take off running, with a hat on," he says. And when covering up his distinctive gray mop, "I've walked through a thousand fans and nobody notices."

Aside from the running, "I use a lot of the stage as exercise," says the singer, who calls his dance style "signature me ... it's original and it's authentic." Plus, it's more cardio: "I wear jackets, and with those lights, I'm sweating off, like, two lbs. a night!"

He should have a workout DVD called the 'American Idol' Winner Weight Loss Plan. All you have to do to lose the weight is win on the show, and then start your world tour. Built in exercise plan right there!
