Posada has had an excellent career, maybe a couple notches shy of Hall of Fame caliber. However, it is not Posada's baseball accomplishments which attracted my attention. It is his son Jorge Luis.
The eight year old Jorge Luis was born with a condition known as craniosynostosis, a congenital birth defect characterized by the premature closure of the bones in the skull. Yours truly is all too familiar with it, because I lived through it.

The Posada family founded the Jorge Posada Foundation to raise awareness about cranisosynostosis and to provide financial and emotional assistance to families affected by the condition. The Jorge Posada Foundation continues to gain awareness and gain support, such as their recently forged relationship with the Newark Bears baseball organization.
Jorge has been a great catcher for a lot of years as his onfield accomplishments prove. However, the efforts of the entire Posada family off the field speak loudly of their strength and perserverance. For this, I am a fan of the Posada family and the Posada Foundation.
