Um...Gross

No he didn't just diss MKO!

After Mary-Kate's David Letterman appearance last week, The Hills Spencer Pratt is speaking out about her comments toward his bad temper on the soccer field while they were in high school together.

The reality villian had this to say:

"I don't really get why she'd use my name to get press for her little indie film that no one's going to see...She should probably focus more on not getting dressed in the dark than on me...I know I've made it in Hollywood when a famous troll is talking about me on Letterman...I forgive her, though. She's had to go through life as the less cute twin, which must be tough."

Fish Girl

I call this piece Fish Girl. I painted her after I did a submission for "Mixed Nuts". (More on that later). She looks like the 3-d piece I made for my submission. I like how she turned out, and she is a re-worked piece as well.

Cindy Margolis - Plastic Surgery?

The former "Most Downloaded Woman in the World" Cindy Margolis is making news lately with her July 2008 pictorial in Playboy magazine. The divorced mother of three is now 42 years old and looks fabulous. I do believe she's had a bit of help, though.

When looking at this photo, she appears to be making a rather stern look. Her brow doesn't furrow, however, and this lack of wrinkles is a likely sign of a good Botox job. Her lips may also be modestly enhanced with a filler, like Restylane. I also think she may have had some enhancement of her cheeks, possibly with Sculptra or fat grafting injections. Her skin is flawless, and has been probably helped out by chemical peels and medical strength skin care products. Finally, she appears to have had a breast augmentation. Overall, I think her work is well-done. She does resemble Shannon Tweed a little bit, so I wonder if they share the same plastic surgeon...

I've not seen her Playboy spread since I do not read the magazine. If I did, however, I'd read it for the articles.

Lift Magic

Ever wonder what you may look like with a browlift, or a cheek lift, or a lip augmentation? A new website called Lift Magic allows you to upload your photo and then see what simulated facial plastic surgery would cause you to look like. I have a similar morphing program that I use for my patients, and the results can be pretty realistic is done correctly. It can also be a nice party game...

Dunham Classes

My summer session of watercolor classes is over at Dunham Recreation Center (Cincinnati Recreation Commission) and I’m already looking forward to the fall session. This is a great bunch of people.

I inherited this class from Marilyn, who had moved from the west side to the east side and did not want to make the long drive over. When she asked me to take over the class I was both flattered and scared! The spring session was the first that I taught and I felt like a substitute teacher going in – would they like me? Would they want to come back? Would I like them? Gulp!
At first I thought I would try to do everything the same way Marilyn had done things, but then I realized that it wasn’t exactly my way of doing things, and it would be better to just be myself.

So, they have put up with me! From the laughter that ensues, I know they are having fun – and I think that is the biggest part of my job. (If my students are not having fun, why are they here!). From the quiet that ensues, I know they are working hard. And from the good results they are getting, I know they are learning something.

Yupo Peony

Here’s my latest – done in Yupo. (Below are the stages of "transformation").

Those of you who know me know that I really hate this stuff. However, one of my students wanted to try it, she had heard so much about it. I figured I couldn’t go wrong by painting a flower, and I’m really quite satisfied with it.

For you “Yup-ors” – you may be able to detect the fact that I used a foam roller and some alcohol but don’t know all the tricks - don’t have any of the George James videos, don’t plan to get them either! (Although, never say never). I even managed to glaze in a few spots (my favorite way to paint).

So, feel free to pick it apart and let me know what I should have done. (Just don’t expect me to do it!)

Cynthia Nixon Denies Plastic Surgery Rumors

Cynthia Nixon has denied recent reports that she's had a breast augmentation. According to The Post Chronicle:

U.S. actress and breast cancer survivor Cynthia Nixon is denying a published report that she recently underwent breast augmentation surgery.
Although the New York Post reported that the Sex and the City star had cosmetic surgery at a Manhattan hospital on the quietest day of the week, Nixon told the New York Daily News the story is totally false and she simply went to the hospital for a three-monthly checkup.

If her denial is indeed true, how can someone mistake a monthly checkup with having a breast augmentation???

Dr. A List Will See You Now

There is a great article written by Natasha Singer in the New York Times on the state of plastic surgery in the current economy. The article focuses on how plastic surgery big ticket items, such as facelifts and tummy tucks, have been affected by the recent downturn in the economy. While the demand for less invasive (and less expensive) treatments like Botox and Restylane grows, the amount of actual surgery performed has increased at a snail's pace according to statistics by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Part of this may be due to people having less disposable income. This has resulted in declines in the waiting lists for even the most prominent plastic surgeons. Two plastic surgeons featured on TV, Dr. Anthony Griffin and Dr. Linda Li, have undergone decreases in their wait times for consultations to 3 months and 1 month respectively.

I think part of the downturn in business for plastic surgeons is also due to the emergence of non-plastic surgeons performing plastic surgery, often at bargain-basement prices. I do find, however, that some of these fake plastic surgeons funnel patients my way, as their victims often need to find a reputable surgeon to fix their botched surgery...

All Laced Up

Sometimes things just sort of “come” to me while I’m in the middle of a plan, which is what happened this week with my nails. I was planning to paint a harlequin design on my nails, but messed up a center diamond, and decided to paint over the whole thing with a wide strip. The plan then became to place smaller sliver stripes on each side of the contrasting center strip. Then I realized I may as well just make a small diamond pattern down the middle…and voila, laced up nails. They aren’t well-centered, as you can see, and not perfect, but kinda fun and funky. I think they’d look great with a nice burgundy corset…

What I used:

1 coat Zoya Anchor
2 coats OPI Designer Series “Couture” (pink)
1 coat/wide strips OPI “Wine Me, Dine Me” (burgundy)
Silver Stripe Rite for laces
2 coats Zoya Armor

I did the base colors first, with wide stripes down the middle in contrast. Then the “X’s” for laces were added, and finally the lines on the side to join everything together. This would be a snap with a nail art pen…a bit more difficult with the stripe rite brush, as it tends to get thick the longer you work with it.

Birdie

Birdie is a piece that I finished last year, but didn't really like all that much. I re-worked her and now I love her. In fact I want to keep her for myself, but I'm letting go of her. She is available in my shop.
She is created on muslin fabric squares which gives this piece texture. I also used acrylics, Inktense pens, graphite, and a white marker.
Birdie measures 5 x 7 x 1.5 inch chunky canvas.
